Purchasing aircraft that would actually be optimized to fight the current war is something that today's leaders are not prepared to do, because it means another project would have to get shelved for fiscal reasons. Buying a prop driven combat aircraft would also be a sin in the eyes of most current AF generals/col. Unfortunately the bureaucracy that is the AF will unwilling to commit to any drastic change, nor would the current procurement methods of "Big Blue" be agile enough to bring a program such as this on time and on budget.

Many years later while I was herding a bunch of CAP cadets around Rickenbacker ANGB during an CAP encampment, he came up and introduced himself to our group perhaps because of Otto.

He didn't remember me, but my first comment to him was "Have you heard from Otto?". After that, he did his very best to talk to the CAP cadets about their options, their service to our country and what the Ohio ANG really had to offer them. He then took the cadets under his wing and gave them a behind the scenes tour that was not scheduled but well worth it.

My condolences to his wife Michelle.
